Notes for CHURCH SAN FRANCISCO
The original inspiration for this drawing was a Church in San Francisco located near the corner of 24th & Mission which I photographed {I lived there from 1980-83} in the early 1980’s with a 35mm Canon Camera. I was in the midst of my Commercial Freelance Illustrator years, with Reps in SAN FRANCISCO {Betsy Hillman}& Los Angeles {Michel Happe}, and I figured I would try and create the definitive stipple illustration. All of my commercial work was with 3x0 to 6x0 Rapidiograph pens on Chrome Coat paper for clients such as BANK OF AMERICA, PORSCHE, NISSAN, WESSON, FOSTERS BEER, STONE CREEK WINE, HONDA, CHEVRON, ST. FRANCIS HOTEL and many more. As I was a Fine Artist originally, I figured I would at least attempt a stipple piece separate from all this commercial nonsense. I chose this photo and off and on for 4 years I worked on this drawing. The original is drawn on Silver Chrome Coat paper and I have estimated there are nearly 1,000,000 dots in this drawing. I calculated that at times I reached better than 300 dots per minute using the Rapidiograph pen with no dots over lapping. The colors you see are various markers as I was experimenting at this point with colors and this surface. The 2nd half of this drawing was completed in Ferndale California.
