Pencil & Ballpoint Pen Drawing, 1988, 2 x 2 1/2 inches
This is a miniature drawing rendered with a mechanical pencil holding 8H to 4B graphite leads, along with various colored ballpoint pens. The original inspiration for this image was a stately determined looking man who had his Ambrotype portrait taken in the 1850’s in a skylight portrait studio, the original of which I eventually found at a San Jose California camera show in the 1980’s. If you do not know, these Ambrotypes and Tintypes are far beyond the resolutional capabilities of modern digital cameras and offer a super difficult challenge to any dedicated Portrait Miniaturist, such as myself. As for the motivational inspiration to the altered background seen here, in the USA there is a large number of Elephants in the Room, meaning glaring hypocritical tendencies of the majority which seem to go forever and ever and ever on, unobserved and unmentioned. In this case I am mentioning in this Artwork, there is the Universal Love Affair with the Birth of any Child while simultaneously there is a Universal Apathetic disregard for the health and well-being of Mother Earth. Is there really a connection between the Future for Children and the environmental Health of Mother Earth, ?????, who would have ever guessed, not the Majority here in the USA, apparently.
