Notes for Marilyn Monroe
This is a miniature 2.25 INCH drawing rendered with a mechanical pencil holding 2mm graphite leads ranging from 8H to 4B, along with various colored ballpoint pens and a metallic gold marker. The original inspiration for this was a very young Marilyn Monroe who was put on the fast-track to fame and stardom in Hollywood and Political circles which led eventually, after she was assassinated, to me finding her image on a set of cards 50+ years later. This work was an experiment in this medium, actually more like a mistake, as the original background I created I did not like, so I transformed the nature of the background using metallic ink, in conjunction with turpentine. As you may have noticed, if I am going to create the finest Miniature works of Art known to man, I prefer to side with featuring the character of the Common Man, as opposed to riding the coat-tails of the Rich and Famous, but alas, on occasion I momentarily lose my sensibilities and create works of art of famous people, as so happened here. Of course I am not opposed to creating the Finest Portrait Miniatures on Earth, even for the Rich and Famous, it’s just that until my abilities are discovered, I won’t be Kissing the Ass of the Almighty Dollar by drawing Marilyn or Elvis on the Head of a Pin.
