Pencil & Ballpoint Pen Drawing, 1986, 2 3/8 x 3 1/4 inches {size of oval}
This miniature 2.5 INCH drawing was rendered using a mechanical pencil holding graphite leads ranging from 8H to 4B. The original inspiration for this image was an unknown young woman of the 1870’s who was photographed in a skylight portrait studio on a glass negative then printed, with the edges vignetted, on albumen Photo paper which was then mounted on a cabinet card which I eventually found for sale in a 2nd hand store 100+ years later. I drew this work the same size as the original cabinet card with a self-taught technique which incorporates every tone and detail of the photographic reflection of this young woman. The detail close-up of this drawing is here presented so as to reveal the nature of this technique to those who so desire to understand.
